This update, you can tell this character’s gonna be important because she has a whole four panels dedicated to her face being hidden behind a binder.

While the exterior of Stoke Newington police station was photo referenced, the interior is cribbed from a bazillion half-remembered episodes of A Touch of Frost. It’s mostly just a regular old office with cop stuff in it, but this and subsequent pages were crazy hard to draw just because of the amount of stuff I kept piling on Wording’s desk. If you look closely over these pages you’ll find a ton of easter eggs and possibly spoiler-y stuff about not only Wording himself but also his prior relationship with Nancy, which was clearly a lot more involved than he’s prepared to let on.

↓ Transcript
Panel 1:
Hackney police station. Wording weaves through a media scrum on his way into the building.

REPORTER: Inspector Wording!

REPORTER: Do you have a statement on Baden-Powell, Inspector Wording?

REPORTER: Are we facing a new terrorist campaign, Inspector Wording?

Panel 2:
CID floor - Wording bee-lines to his desk in a funk. DCI Michael Adebayo clutches a coffee and intercepts him.

ADEBAYO: Sam! How’s the investigation going?

WORDING: Let me get back to it and I’ll let you know, boss.

ADEBAYO: Hey, don’t shoot the messenger, I didn’t call you here.

Panel 3 (big):
A young officious woman with long silver hair sits at Wording’s desk, face hidden by a binder labelled “Brilligan.” Adebayo gets out the way and introduces Wording to her. Wording’s desk is a mess compared to Solomon’s and Lewis’ desks nearby - Solomon’s desk is filled with warm pictures of family members while Lewis’ is remarkably clinical except for a dog-shaped novelty mug acting as a pencil holder containing coloured Bi- and Trans flags.

ADEBAYO: She did.

CAROL: No need to get huffy, I won’t keep you long.

CAROL: In fact, Detective Inspector Wording, I may have a solution to that palpable frustration I’m detecting in your tone.
