Chapter 1 – Page 85
In today’s update, coppers talk shop.
This is your regularly-scheduled reminder that the officer in charge of the police operation that killed Jean-Charles de Menezes not only got away scot free, but was lauded, promoted and is now Commissioner of the Met. Our police might be better about this kind of thing than the Americans, but only by degrees.

Panel 1:
A ways away, Wording, Solomon and Lewis are carpooling, searching the streets - Lewis driving, Solomon with a pair of binocs.
LEWIS: …
LEWIS: Did you ask for a raise?
Panel 2:
Wording tears his eyes from the road to argue. Solomon covers the side of the street he was searching.
WORDING: No, Russell, I didn’t ask for a raise.
LEWIS: Well you should’ve asked for a raise!
WORDING: When you’re asked to turn your back on a force you’ve been part of since it was called a “force,” I’d like to think you’d have more to say than “can I have a raise?”
LEWIS: And that attitude is why the Home Office walks all over us, guv.
Panel 3:
Solomon lowers her binocs as Wording scowls at the road.
SOLOMON: Sounds to me like you want us to talk you out of it.
WORDING: ...it was the “firearms training” that got me.
WORDING: Special police with special badges shooting up suspects willy-nilly, what are we, Brazil?
LEWIS: I’d be careful talking about “shooting suspects” and “Brazilians” round the Commissioner, guv.
Panel 4:
Wording turns back to the others, concerned.
WORDING: …
WORDING: You both...want to sign up for this?
LEWIS: Hard to turn down extra resources when we’re scouring a city of eight million for one girl.
SOLOMON: And with all the weird stuff we’ve had to handle…
Panel 5:
Wording snaps at the others as Lewis rolls his eyes and Solomon cranes her neck to see out the side window.
WORDING: We’ve handled them!
WORDING: And we’ll keep on handling them!
WORDING: I don’t need some bigshot from head office telling me we can’t do our job!
SFX: ~diddle-ee-dee diddle-ee-dee diddle-ee-dee deeeee-~
Panel 6:
Wording answers the phone. Solomon and Lewis immediately perk up.
WORDING: Wording.
WORDING: …
WORDING: Simar?
