Chapter 3 – Page 011
I’d been planning this chapter to take place on the Underground for a while, but being able to tie in Crossrail’s continued inability to commence existing was a nice piece of “ripped from the headlines” serendipity.
I refuse to call it the “Queen Elizabeth Line.” She’s already got the Jubilee Line named after her, she doesn’t need more of the network that my taxes funded. It’s not like she paid for it.

Panel 1:
In a corner of a dark platform overloaded with construction gear, leaking pipes and dust, is an undisturbed door.
Panel 2:
Same view. The door is disturbed by Nancy’s boot.
Panel 3 (wide):
Bond Street Crossrail station is a mess. Nancy is waving her instrument around and getting nowhere.
SI: Mmmyep, that’s a big ‘ole in the ground alright.
NANCY: A big, completely normal hole in the ground according to these readings.
Panel 4:
Nancy turns the instrument the other way, the String on the Instrument’s reader barely budges.
SI: I dunno, it feels kinda spooky, I guess.
NANCY: We’re hunting quantum aberrations, Si, not ghosts.
NANCY: “Spookiness” is not a measurable quotient, please keep this scientific.
Panel 5:
Nancy bashes the box in frustration.
NANCY: I don’t understand.
NANCY: The tube’s always deviated slightly from the relativistic baseline, but the String’s no more unstable here than the rest of the network.
