What kind of a workaholic has a clothes rack in her office?

↓ Transcript
Panel 1 (wide):
An open invitation to E-D’s Xoyo party lies on Derrider’s desk in the GLA Building as Derrider picks out clothing in front of the window, London sparkling beyond. Her hair is sprawled from the closet across the office, carrying dresses.

NEWSOM (box): Think about it, brother, who is she? Where does she come from?

NEWSOM (box): “Home Office Liaison to the GLA Metropolitan Police Committee,” a position that did not exist prior to her assuming it with no fanfare whatsoever.

NEWSOM (box): The Mayor’s Office swears blind that she was foisted upon them by the civil service. The Home Office is convinced she’s a political appointee. Conservative Central Office informed me that she was recommended to them by the police. The Met Commission was first introduced to her when she showed up at their regularly-scheduled GLA hearings on law enforcement.

NEWSOM (box): Ensconced in a gap between authorities, answerable to none of them and yet exercising unrestricted power over all of them.

Panel 2 (wide):
Derrider, holding a dress up by her hair, studies it in great detail.

WORDING (box): I never would have imagined a Mason of all people would be entertaining such a ridiculous conspiracy theory.

WORDING (box): She’s a minor functionary, not Maximilien Robespierre. It’s thanks to her that this city is taking supernatural threats seriously for the first time in my career instead of leaving it all to unhinged lunatics like Nancy Brilligan.

NEWSOM (box): Ah, but that’s the danger, isn’t it? Next to ghosts and goblins and disappearing tube trains, a bureaucrat abusing her position to carve an empire for herself feels so pedestrian, does it not?

NEWSOM (box): As focused as you are on rescuing London from a lunatic, surely you recognise the danger of handing it to a lunatic in a suit?

Panel 3 (wide):
Across town, the Xoyo is lit up to the nines, the GO! LEM logo draped outside. As a line backs up at ground level, two dark figures prowl the roof.

WORDING (box): I’ve been in this job long enough to recognise lunacy when I see it, Newsom. Enough to know I’m looking at it right now.

NEWSOM (box): Suit yourself, but you’d do well to reflect on a warning our old brother Robespierre was fond of giving and would have done well to heed…

NEWSOM (box): The sleep of reason produces monsters.
