Panel 1:
Si is taking in the sights while Nancy is setting her teeth on edge trying to listen in on a String that’s speaking in accents.
SI: You ever been to Scotland?
NANCY: Stayed at a B&B on Jura, taking long rainy walks while the parents oohed and aahed at whisky distilleries.
NANCY: Most miserable week of my life. You?
SI: Oh yeah! Pitā took me ta see the Tattoo! Went dahn the Royal Mile and got ‘imself a 100% genuine Qareen tartan!
Panel 2:
Nancy stares at Si. Si is being made to think about this stuff for the first time in ever.
NANCY: But…
NANCY: “Qareen”…isn’t…
NANCY: ...a Scottish…
NANCY:...clan…
NANCY: …what?
SI: Oh.
SI: Well when ya sez it like that, sounds kinda like we woz robbed, huh?
Panel 3:
The two pass a crystal woo shop that piques Nancy’s interest.
SI: So wot sorta guide wez looking for here?
SI: Not like they’z handing ‘em out at bus stops, this ain’t the Fringe.
NANCY: Every major conurbation generates its own Defender of Relativity, and I like to keep tabs on my competitors.
Panel 4:
Nancy snaps a card off a noticeboard outside the woo shop with triumph. Si leans over.
SI: Y’mean “colleagues”?
NANCY: No, I said “competitors”.
NANCY: Surprised the hack fraud hasn’t been run out on a rail yet.
Panel 5 (wide):
Nancy holds up the card for Si to look at. It’s a business card for Robert Q Reiver of the “Don’t Fear The Reiver” paranormal detective agency. “You won’t believe how much I’ll believe you!” it promises. “Above the Unlucky Dragon Restaurant, 22a Bain Street, Glasgow.” There’s a picture of a sleazy looking man in shades, sporting clip-on bluetooth earbuds, a high-collar trenchcoat that’s slightly too big for him, a badly-cropped goatee and a ponytail. Si is tapping her violin case to start up the googlemap.
SI: “Robert Q Reiver.”
SI: Woss the “Q” stand for?
NANCY: “Quote up front”, probably.
NANCY: Alice will track us down eventually if we spend hours wandering. Could you fire up the satnav?
SI: Sure!
